Transition NDG Soirée Ciné-discussion/ Film & Discussion Evening Symbiotic Earth - How Lynn Margulis Rocked the Boat and Started a Scientific Revolution In the 1960s, Lynn Margulis developed a novel theory of evolution. This film explores her life and ideas. She was a brilliant and radical scientist, whose unconventional theories challenged the scientific community and are fundamentally changing how we look at ourselves, evolution, and the environment. Symbiotic Earth (Terre symbiotique) Ce film explore la théorie de l’évolution développée par la brillante scientifique Lynn Margulis au cours des années 1960. Ses théories radicales et non conventionnelles ont mis au défi la communauté scientifique et profondément modifié nos perceptions de nous-mêmes, de notre évolution et de notre environnement. Films en anglais, avec sous-titres français lorsque disponibles. Films are in English, with French subtitles when available.

*************** The film will be followed by a discussion period facilitated by Catherine Moore. Catherine is a recently retired professor from the Department of Geography, Planning, and Environment at Concordia University. She has more than thirty years experience teaching courses and conducting research on environmental science, environmental issues, and sustainability as well as serving as an environmental consultant for government and nongovernmental organizations. La discussion qui suivra le visionnement du film sera animée par Catherine Moore. À la retraite depuis peu, Catherine enseignait au département Geography, planning and environment (Géographie, planification et environnement) de l’Université Concordia. Elle a cumulé plus de 30 ans d’expérience en enseignement et en conduite de recherche portant sur la science environnementale et les enjeux afférents ainsi que sur la durabilité, agissant également à titre d’experte-conseil en environnement pour des organismes gouvernementaux et des organisations non gouvernementales.
